NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY FAQ | 2022

I'm here to answer a few questions you might have about booking a newborn photo session.

  1. When do I book? As soon as you're ready! The winter months are often slower, so you don't have to reach out as soon, but if you have a summer or fall baby, then the sooner the better!

  2. How do I book? Send me an email (ashleyelwill@gmail.com) I only take on a certain number of newborns each month (it depends on the month) We will not lock down the exact date, but I will mention what days/times are likely to be available depending on the time of year. You would reach out to me as soon as you can once baby arrives. I suggest shooting within the first two weeks to get the sleepiest and most agreeable baby, but we can shoot anytime you're comfortable.

  3. How long is a newborn session and what can I expect? A newborn session lasts about 40-60 minutes. It's nice to leave a little buffer in case baby needs to eat or be changed. I do not offer in home mini sessions, but if you're looking for something more simple, you can reach out for available mini session times.

  4. Do you bring props? If you take a look at my website, you might see a few props, but those would have all been provided by the family. I do bring along a few blankets and I send a style guide to help you a bit on what to wear. More importantly, I like to focus on the family dynamic, getting a few sweet and memorable shots of just baby, and all the details (toes, nursery, siblings, etc)

  5. Where will we shoot? The best place to shoot is at your home where everyone is comfortable. I also believe it helps the photos to hold more meaning years down the road. Renting a studio for an additional fee is an option if you'd like.

  6. What's the number one piece of advice you have for me? Take a deep breath and remember that these images are for you and your family. You do not need to be perfect, you just need to love on that baby. If you're calm, baby is much more likely to be calm. Show up for your family and not for social media. These are memories for YOU and not for the internet. Think about things that are special for you and your family and incorporate those if you'd like.

Here's a handful of samples from the last month, enjoy!
